Damn Obama, At Any Price!

Met a Proud PUMA in a diary today.  He makes a compelling argument for supporting John McCain and I just have to agree with him.  There is no price too high to show those media pundits who's boss, to slap back at the horrible Democrats for betraying their base.  No price too steep for the personal satisfaction of sitting back and smugly grinning as the Chickens Come Home To Roost.

With some help from the Jed Report, I stand firm with this handsome man in striking back at the sexist media, at Obama for not battling FISA this week, at all those who conspired to thwart his wishes.

No price is too high to pay for justice.

(PUMA:) I'm very proud to be a PUMA. I won't vote for Obama if only to make Olbermann and Matthews cry on election night.

Glad you'll show those darn media celebrities!

(Jed:) I've got the radio turned on. President McCain is about to give his first press conference after his inauguration earlier in the week. They're saying he's planning on talking about his legislative initiative for the first hundred days, but that's okay.

I mentioned I'm driving; it's expensive. Gas prices are now over five bucks a gallon and going higher. McCain in his inauguration announced a bold new initiative to lower gas prices -- building a long-term base in Iraq, near the border with Iran.

There's nothing better than getting back at the people who made your life a living hell.  Jam it to them, I say!

Hey, if my son will be fighting age during McCain's tenure, so what?  I'm OK with nursing him for the rest of his life when he gets our of Walter Reid with the bullet still lodged in his brain.  Every parent likes the idea of their children never leaving home, and if it makes Olberman suffer then so be it!

The press conference comes on. The first question is about reports that one of the liberal members of the Supreme Court is in poor health and is about to retire. McCain wishes the justice well, and promises to seek a replacement that is in keeping with the constitutional traditions of the country.

I figure he means someone to the right of Roberts and Alito. Something like that.

My daughters will go through puberty during the McCain era, but it's all good.  Young parenthood teaches tough lessons that will serve them well in life, and as one of the fortunate who will probably be able to afford the short trip to Mexico we can still get an abortion if we need it.  The instruments will probably be sterile, anyway.

Anything to make Matthews cry, is what I say! Got get'em!

Maybe in part because of my apathy, John McCain won the November election.

But that's okay -- because I sure showed Barack Obama.

And now he's the one paying the price.

Frickin' A!

Hey, and if I run into you on the street and we get to talking and realize we discussed this, here, way back when, and I snap under the realization that you actively worked to leave Donna and I to spoon feed our son into our elderly years, that you labored to let our daughter bleed to death in a Tijuana back-alley "clinic", that you strove to leave our surviving daughter to drop out of school to work in a McDonald's to help her parents pay their bills - it will be nothing to pay for the joy of seeing those media folks blush with the realization of how foolish they were.  I'll probably get out in a few years and can get back to helping Donna change Damien's diapers again, anyway.

God damn that Obama Man.

At any price.

Re: Damn Obama, At Any Price! (1.83 / 6)

Some people are so childish they'll take us all down a few pegs so they can make their point.

I do miss those idiots who would insist we were "blackmailing them" by telling them what the Republicans would do, would continue to do, if John McCain is elected.  It isn't blackmail, or more appropriately extortion, if the bad actor is not the one making the "threat."

Elections matter.  There are good reasons to vote for John McCain.  Spite really isn't one of them.  I respect my Republican friends who vote the way they do honestly.  I have no respect for adults who show less sense than children, though.

The PUMA difference from everyone else (1.80 / 5)

is that they believe all the terrible things in the diary above will come to pass if McCain is elected, but they want me to pay that price.

Republicans don't think these things will happen with McCain in office.  Democrats don't think these things will happen with Obama in office.  PUMAs think these things will happen with McCain in office - and they will do anything to make it happen.

Alone in all the world, they wish for the fire to come down on everyone.  To "show us" what we did.

The combination of that Jed article and this cretin's comment set a fire in my head.  They want to see it all come down so they can dance in the ashes.  They are the worst people on the planet.

I suggest you ignore it, these people are irrational, so there no use even talking to them.  At least they have given up any real hope, and their last gasp is that Obama is not a US citizen.   Reality is not their friend.

engaging them is it forces me to whet my knife.  I enjoy conflict and love to have my beliefs forced through a crucible.  Too many times in life I have been enthusiastically wrong, and countering these folks helps me test my systems...

And I just cannot leave a bully standing unchallenged.  I'd rather be beaten to death.

Sure.

A tough and brilliant woman Senator was defeated by sexism as opposed to faulty planning and boneheaded remarks from time to time, to say nothing of a former-President for a husband who hogs the spotlight and resents anybody who says his term was imperfect.

You want another bedtime story?  Sure.  How about the one where electing another Republican didn't lead to more Americans dying in Iraq?  The one where making an aggrieved political point had no real-life consequences and only accomplished what was intended.

It really doesn't matter one bit whether or not you respect others for how they vote.  It also doesn't matter whether or not you insult them for how they vote.

Some of us will not vote for Barack Obama.  I personally do not want Obama and his followers to run the Democratic Party - this movement is not progressive.

I like the points made in the diary, but I think it's a waste of time if it is aimed at PUMA members or their soulmates. They don't care about the issues. They never have. It was all about Hillary and getting a woman elected as President. If you didn't go along with that then you were a sexist pig who hated women. There is only one thing that will satisfy them and it's not having Hillary on the ticket as VP. They want Barack to step aside and hand the nom to Hillary. That's the only thing that will make them happy.

It's the same mindset as many Republicans - vote against your own interests in order to stick it to "the libruls."  It's too bad - I thought that that sort of childishness was confined to the other side.  Anyway, I think that their effect on this election has been overblown.  Rational people can see that they are fools.

The PUMA's relationship reminds me a bit of the relationship secular Jews have with the nuttier evangelicals.  The ones who support Israel because they're hoping that my co-religionists will help start their holy war.

Apparently my fellow Jews need to die in order to set off the rapture.  Friends like that can do without.  I wish Lieberman understood that those folks are not our friends.

Off-topic, but something I find interesting. Have you noticed that my diary from yesterday calling for better control of the trolls on this site has dropped off the rec list, but an anti-Obama diary that was written earlier yesterday is still there even though it has half as many recs? What's up with that?

Re: Damn Obama, At Any Price! (1.85 / 7)

Again, there is no future in attempting to persuade or threaten PUMAs.  These are not folks who were voting on principle or policy -- they were voting solely on personality and superficial identification all along.

I'd bet a fair number of them voted for Reagan because he was "such a nice man! And so handsome!" and for GWB because "that Laura is so adorable!".

Every election cycle has them -- identity voters who don't know and dont' care about anything a politician stands for.   I'm sure McCain will get his share of vets and old timers who won't vote in their own best interest, and Obama will collect votes from a few African Americans who can't cite one reason to vote for him besides his skin color.

PUMAs are only getting attention from the media right now because so much is being made of "The Split" and there's not much else to talk about in politics.  Come November a significant number of them will stay home to distraught to vote and the rest will vote for McCain along with many millions of other deluded aholes.

What I would guarantee is no amount of persuation is going to move them to Obama.  Oh well.  All we need to do is focus on registration and GOTV and  we will win handsomely without them, barring some horrific gaff or revelation.

Really, too much is being made over "healing the Divide" at this point.  True Democrats, true feminists and any who votes with a conscience will be there in November.  Don't waste your breath on the crazies.

I've been thinking that they may do some (none / 0)

good, yet.

1.  Mobilizing the Democratic base.

- Most people with a progressive viewpoint are appalled at the train-wreck these folks are making of themselves.

2.  Demoralizing the Repbulican base.

- While losing their support on both fringes (moderates and Big C Conservatives) thinking: "This is the best we can do?"

3.  Keeping Obama in the news.

Free speech is truly a wonderful thing.  Shouting idiocy makes its own point - this is why I have always been ready to argue for the rights of Neo-Nazis et al to speak thier minds in public.  People who could have bought into an argument but never thought it through cringe back from it when the real nut-jobs start blathering at length.

However, if anyone thinks that Chris Matthews would cry for someone in POLITICS, you're nuts. Matthews does not and will never own a pony. He just latches himself onto whoever's in the lead.
