I was being sardonic, to be sure, but at least the Cold War left some useful legacy to us free-thinkers (I got an ex-CCCP micrometer as well which I would never have been able to afford otherwise. Yeah, that's scary. And no coffins coming home either, eh? Better get our War Powers and Domestic Surveillance legislation in order, and pronto.
When that was penned the scariest thing on earth was a guy covered in sheetmetal sitting on top of a large grsss-eating mammal.
It's no less true today.
